The Forty Niner

Blasting through an Illinois snowstorm, the Southern Pacific/Union Pacific/Chicago and North Western’s extra fare “Forty Niner” rockets east towards its arrival in Chicago. The Forty Niner is on the last leg of its 2261 mile run across the “Overland Route” between San Francisco and the Windy City. Created in 1937, the Forty Niner was an “All Pullman, Extra Fare” speedster catering to the wealthy and fastidious traveler. Althought the temperature has plummeted below zero on this frigid night, passengers are warm in the luxurious Pullman berths of this “Grand Hotel on Wheels”.
