Stewart
Buck graduated from Iowa State University in 1973 with
a Bachelor’s Degree in Advertising Design. He continued
at ISU and in 1975, he completed his Master’s Degree
in Design, and also obtained an additional Bachelor’s
Degree in Art Education.
Buck is employed by the
Bondurant-Farrar Community School District, where he has
taught art classes for the past three decades. He was
runner-up for the State of Iowa’s 1989 Teacher of
the Year.
For the last quarter
century, Buck has maintained Streamliner Studio, a freelance
art business. Buck’s art and photography have won
numerous awards in exhibitions throughout the Midwest.
His art has been selected three times for the prestigious
“Iowa Artists Exhibition” at the Des Moines
Art Center. In 1991, he was the recipient of the Iowa
State University’s Design Achievement Award recognizing
“outstanding mid-career achievements of alumni in
the field of art and design.” He has had dozens
of solo shows during the last decade and has been juror
for a number of competitions throughout the Midwest. Buck
works with pastels creating drawings with predominately
railroad and landscape themes. His artwork and photography
can be found in private and corporate collections around
the United States. Commissions have included major works
for the Chicago and North Western Transportation Company,
Wisconsin Central Ltd., Iowa Interstate, Wilson Railway
Corporation, the Cedar Rapids and Iowa City Railroad,
Boone and Scenic Valley Railroad, Miner Enterprises, Inc.,
the Iowa Highway Patrol, and the Cuyahoga Valley Scenic
Valley Railroad. His work has been selected for book covers,
calendars, brochures, greeting cards, and magazines. |
